Drawing is a Verb.
http://www.ouchmyeye.com/2009/drawingisaverb
Saturday, February 28th, 2009 – 8:00 PM
Live Music featuring Amad Baabahar - 9:30pm
Whether a pencil dragged across a surface of paper or a trail of footprints extending into the distance, Drawing is a verb. examines imagery and ideas that are free and emancipated from the rigid traditions of the past, yet still in line with its ideals. Pieces in the exhibition span from traditional graphite works on paper to processes that push the borders of three-dimensionality, expanding into installation and performance. These artists examine the materials, methods, and concepts of what are deemed “drawing,” synthesizing this traditional format with the contemporary setting.
Whether looking at the two-dimensional works on paper of Grant Hottle (Portland), Michael Lorefice (Seattle), and Preston Graves (Phoenix), or mixed media installations, distance and time are two themes that weave their way through the works in the exhibition. Kayce Bayer (Chicago) and Kristin Miller (Miami) will display a collaborative installation piece that incorporates their modes of communication over the two thousand miles that they are routinely separated by. Seattle-based artists Alex Branch and Kimberly Trowbridge will also be displaying new work, incorporating traditional drawing techniques with contemporary installation practices.
