When we first heard that David Ellis and Blu were collaborating on a timelapse video we were beyond thrilled. Long before Blu did MUTO, David put together the most amazing timelapse videos we’ve ever seen with the Barnstormers.
Talking with Blu the other night, he told to us that COMBO, the video he did with David
at this year’s Fame festival would be up on YouTube this week.
And here it is…
12 days at the Alaskan state fair, 12 video blogs and 3 million salmon quesadilla later. Jesse and Johnny get “Fully Faired”, now that’s a “Cool Story”!
The Everlasting Ride
An American media artist/activist, Franklin Joyce, an Indonesian counter-culture icon and brand designer, Dendy Darman and an award-winning custom hotrod artist, Veroland, are teaming up on a small fleet of art, bike taxis to celebrate Indonesia’s Sumpah Pemudah (United Youth Day) in Bandung, Java and to create the foundation for an independent, driver-owned bike taxi co-op.
Bicycle taxi’s or Becak (beh-chak) are cultural symbols of urban Indonesia. Unfortunately, like so many languid traditions, becak are increasingly being banned from areas of larger Indonesian cities because they impede the fast, impersonal, polluting automobiles. The Everlasting Ride celebrates pedal power, bicycle culture, going slow and taking in the sites. The kinetic collaborations will draw commuters in for a ride to relax and appreciate their city, the culture, and the moment.
The Everlasting Ride bike taxi co-op will operate on Bandung’s Braga Street, an area of historical buildings and heritage interest that will begin restricting motor traffic later this year.
The Everlasting Ride exemplifies how art can interweave, community, social development, and environmental consciousness.
+ Bike axis are customized, modified and rebuilt from second hand frames.
+ Pedal power is an environmental and sustainable transportation source.
+ The youth of Bandung are participating in promoting the Everlasting Ride co-op to the city.
+ Working for bike taxi companies, drivers make about $1.50 / day. As owners in their own co-op their wages will increase and they will have access to micro lending through the co-op.
Support Needed
The Everlasting Ride receives support from Art Matters, the International Bike Fund and through the donated services of all the artists involved. But we still need your help!
Add another bike taxi to our fleet for just $425! Each additional bike taxi allows the co-op to support 1.5 extra drivers!
Donate parts! We need: Internal gear hubs, rims, spokes, saddles, grips, cranks, pedals. For 7 bike taxis. These are works of art so we’ll be looking for the good stuff yo!
Any cash or in-kind donations can be donated via the International Bike Fund for a tax deduction. In thanks, we’ll be able to provide, high resolution, professional photographs of The Everlasting Ride bike taxis, events and co-op members for your promotional / current event or news blogging purposes.
What is United Youth Day?
In the mid 20’s a small conference of Indonesian Youth took an oath to dedicate themselves to uniting the islands from Sumatra to Papua into a single nation. It was the same generation who finally made this a reality in the late 40’s. The holiday celebrates the vision and power of young people.
Artist Bios
Franklin Joyce uses creative muscle to bolster the efforts of those working diligently for change. He focuses on collaborative projects pairing artists with non-profits, bringing visibility to heroes in the non-profit community. His latest artwork is on libraries, non-profit websites, recycling trucks, t-shirts, street projections, stickers and youth political action buses.
Dendy Darman is co-founder and owner of Bandung’s best-known independent clothing label, Unkl347. Unkl347 is an evolving art project that has helped shape the youth culture in Bandung and other cities in Indonesia over the last 13 years through the playful graphic dialogue of their apparel / branding and active participation in the music and art communities.
Veroland’s hotrod and chopper creations are internationally recognized for their originality, technicality and creativity. His garage, Kick Ass Choppers, cranks out modifications that have stunned spectators in all walks of life.

I think we all go through awkward stages… you know, like jams and peach Gotcha shirts, braces, bad hair cuts… It’s fun to reflect back on the days when you just weren’t sure of yourself.
Marcel is a cool cat…and to see Marcel in the midst of growing up, posted up on the Dobis’ household couch with the legend Craig Kelly in his prime… that makes us smile. Craig has since changed the way snowboarding is… forever and though we have lost him, it’s people like Marcel that carry on his legacy… that is some full circle biz. Thanks for the memories Craig and thanks for keeping them alive Marcel ::
