This weekend is North by Northwest’s Strapless Weekend at Hurricane Ridge! Admission–$15 for one day or $20 for two–gets you a t-shirt and a raffle ticket. Olympic National Park is not charging for entrance.
Saturday includes a Park Jam at around noon, starting with a one-hour all skate jam, with the top 10 advancing to a half hour jam and the top 5 advancing to a half-hour final. First place gets $700. Also on Saturday: an evening indoor skate jam and a party at the Coo Coo’s Nest in Port Angeles with the T-Bagging Bandits.
Sunday includes the Baked Slalom around noon at the Port Angeles Speed Ditch with a $300 first-place prize, an end-of-the-day raffle, and (most likely) the Snowskate Powder Downhill.
Also, if you can get your triple “S” (Snow, Skate and Surf) all in on either day there’s a hat in it for you–and bring your hotel receipt, because they’ll be raffling off a free hotel room stay, too.
Bellingham’s local music champions and bicycle MacGyvers over at Make.Shift (along with Mac n Mac Electric) have published a time-lapse video of the construction of their bicycle-power “Power Wheel” generator, narrated with handy notecards. Perfect for the bike enthusiast and electricity-needer on-the-go.
This is no wimpy generator, either–Make.Shift uses the bicycle to power shows in remote locations, like this one on a beach in Bellingham:
More photos of the “Power Wheel” are right over here at BuildStrong.
Come support the Juniors in the University of Washington’s Industrial Design Program at Drink+Draw II, tomorrow, March 2nd. The last one was a big success, and they’re hoping to draw an even bigger crowd this time. What’s more fun than drinking beers and drawing pictures right?
For all of you that missed opening day at Baker… oh man, it looked
like a good one.
Astronaut’s John Laing, Jake Blauvelt, Jesse Burtner, Pat McCarthy and
pretty much the entire shred community painted powder turns on 62+ inches
and some even made it to see the Pixies that night. I’ll bet work was Zombie
like the following day, with a dirty little smile to all onlookers.
I was unable to make it but was lucky enough to hear all the details from
the 100+ people I know that did go…
Lucky me… I made it up on Saturday for redemption, and though it was not
opening day, it was Baker with over a 65″ base.

Special guest “Madbunny” from Japan will be displaying new works as well as Spacecraft’s co-founder (Stefan Hofmann) the creative mind behind nearly all the visual imagery of Spacecraft.

This project is close to our hearts and we thank you for contributing your talent to make a difference within a wonderful community.

SPRING 2009 :: AWAKENING
:: NEXT SHOW - EARTH DAY BENEFIT ::
What better way to start off the spring with a concert celebrating the Earth? Our Earth. Join us at Neumo’s on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 as we kickoff the 40th Annual Earth Day with a concert to help benefit Seattle Youth Garden Works, our new community partner. They strive to educate, empower, and employ homeless and marginalized youth through garden-based training. You’ll see the youth selling their delicious vegetables and starters at this spring’s gardening festivals. Find our more at www.sygw.org.
Clinton Fearon, playing an intimate acoustic set, will be joining us on the bill. As our mentor and constant source of inspiration, he has always been the voice of the people and we are so fortunate to share the stage with him once again. We wish Clinton a safe flight home from his current tour through France and look forward to seeing his amazing smile in less than a month’s time.
Dub Down will start the night off with their powerful drum and bass grooves, driven by a lead guitar that could take you to the moon and beyond! DJ DAG will be keeping the energy flowing on the turntables – he also happens to be the Reggae Music Director at our favorite community radio station, KBCS 91.3 FM! We’ll be on the air with him for the Reggae Party show on Thursday, April 16th, playing a live acoustic set – we’ll catch you all on the FM waves!

The changing in the seasons, like the change in the tide, is everlasting, cyclic, and a testament to the fact that each and every one of us can transform our lives, from when we are just six all the way to age 65. Even our grandmothers have just started singing again! What a beautiful world we live in – see you all as we spring forward!
Much love and aloha,
Kore Ionz
