Spacecraft : Stevens Pass : Retro Fools Day
An April dump of snow in the Cascades, one piece suits and stepping back into the rad… Check out the first annual Stevens Pass Retro Fools Day slalom race and as seen by Spacecraft’s Ryan and the Rabbit.
A late season dump produces an amazing day at Stevens Pass on April 2nd. The crew set gates for the first annual Retro Fools Day downhill slalom race. About 100 stoked snow enjoyers showed up at the top of Hogs Back and strapped into their old set-ups. The day was a classic in the making with neon glowing gear and a pretty good assortment of snow toys that represented the evolution of 20+ years of snow shredding design. A slalom course with breakaway gates was the set-up to test your skills and shoot for the fastest time. The snow fell all day and the beer went just the same. Powder, friends and fun was Retro Fools Day… and you know that Spacecraft will be back at Stevens Pass next year… come on out and race the Rabbit on your classic equipment.

Spacecraft to attend prestigious Snow Skate event : March 20th at Silver Fir | High Noon
We at Spacecraft like to snow skate from time to time. I think snow skating has still to reach its prime… many vision a lunch tray with grip tape and a little rail set up… back yard stuff for kids, right?… I guess it depends on how you look at it and what level you want to take it to.
I personally like the by-decks and being able to RIDE the mountain… The dudes that put on the Serpentine Massacre are of similar thought. These guys are pushing an underground movement that is likely to smear any stereotypes of snowskaters…
Riding the whole mountain on conditions that allow it can rejuvenate your love for the mountain and even act as a way to feel like a kid again… or it’s just another excuse to drink beer and get ideas for bad tattoos. Only you can decide, so, before you stereotype this “un-sport” as a novelty act, check out people who really RIDE snowskates. Your jaw will drop and you’ll become a groupie.

The Spacecraft Rabbit checks out the Ride Shakedown at Snoqualmie
The Shakedown was a grassroots event that was started in the far away country of Canada. It has grown in popularity over the years and made its way to Washington’s Summit at Snoqualmie.
We were given an invite to come see some talented snow shredders leap off of a huge snow wedge and then navigate a rail set-up after landing that.
It was a cool scene at the Summit, with a steady crowd to cheer on the snowboard leapers.
Spacecraft stayed low key and lurked around checking out the action from the sidelines.
Congrats to Manuel Diaz and Megan Ginter from your friends at Spacecraft
The images below are a slice of the final day as seen through Spacecraft eyes.
For actual substance on the event, check out these links : Snowboarder | Transworld | ESPN |

Ryan Miller : The Clark Kent of the NW Spacecraft Rabbit and grower of the clear mustache.

Year of the Tiger-Bunny!
Welcome to the year of the Tiger 2010!
According to Chinese Astrology
The Tiger is said to be lucky vivid, lively and engaging. Another attribute of the Tiger is his incredible bravery, evidenced in his willingness to engage in battle or his undying courage. Maybe he’s so brave because he is so lucky.
Tiger is not the only one feeling lucky… Bunny is feeling it! Enter the Dragon and crouch the Tiger stance, here comes Spacecraft 2010, Bunny Style…..
Are there any Tiger’s out there? Hit us up on Facebook, MySpace, or Twitter and share your stance on the year to come. Photos and videos welcome. Show us you’re a Tiger! Show us what you can do……

Wheat paste a what-what!?
A couple twenty feet tall pieces to the side of Evo? Piece of cookie for the motley crew who put up the Spacecraft and Purple Razor mural in celebration of the “How the North West was One” debut. Duffy (of Purple Razor) threw down with Ryan, Lucky, and Chris (of spacecraft) to get the work on the wall. Well done! Here are a few shots of the crew putting it up. Be sure to swing by Evo and check it out!

The Spacecraft Gallery Release Party | part 1
On May 22, Spacecraft hosted an art show to debut the new “Spacecraft Gallery Sticker Sheets”. We joined forces with Japan’s Madbunny, all the artists on the sticker sheet, Patrick Lennox Wright Photography, Jones Soda, The Venik Lounge and the community of Seattle. The evening was to help raise money for a social cause on the Island of Bali Indonesia. With a secret base in Bali, Spacecraft creates a portion of its products there where the people of Bali have given so much to Spacecraft. In the small village of Canggu, farming is a staple industry and at a relatively young age, kids can end up working in the fields to help support their families. This can that kids out of school due to the expences. With a small amount of funding, the schools can allow the local kids to remain in school and further their education. So, we are raising some funds, while hosting a great little party with some great artwork and good friends to make it all come together.
The images from the sheet were printed on canvas, framed and sold in a silent auction to be donated to the Bali School Fund. We thank the artists for their contributions and all of the humans that came out to support the show. Below is a display of some of the eye candy from the evening,

The Spacecraft Rabbit invades the set of Think Thank’s new project “Cool Story.”
Yours truly got a call from Pat Milbery on Monday night letting me know he was in town to hook up with Jesse Burtner and the cast of Think Thank to film the opening part of their new film “Cool Story.” Tuesday morning, I skinned the Spacecraft rabbit, loaded up my snowskate, packed my wife’s camera and made the pilgrimage to the badlands of the dismantled Hyak resort, (just one of the gems at The Summit at Snoqualmie). With a sled ride from the Evo house, I was dropped off at the secret playground to a greeting of laughter and shakas. The likes of Gus Engle, Pat Milbery, Ben Bogart, Matt Edgers, Blair Habenicht, Jonny Miller, Andre Spinelli and of course Jesse Burtner were all hanging out and polishing their tricks. Below are some of the images I captured while wearing the Rabbit suit and playing the fool. Thanks to The Summit and the hardworking staff that makes cool stuff like this happen :: Click each pic twice to enlarge

New Works
When I’m not working or hopping around or getting worked on the quarter pipe at Holy Oly, sometimes I do art. (I use the term loosely) Here is a preview of my newest series.

Congrats to Monty Hays
Last weekend was the Holy Oly Revival Relocated. The weather was nice, Summit West was hoppin, and the park crew somehow managed to erect a 28ft quarter pipe. After waking up around 8AM on my friend’s couch next to a bucket of barf from the night before, I made my way up to hill. Upon my arrival I noticed all the heavy hitters were in attendance, the fans were cheering, Jesse Burtner was talking, and I frantically searched the hill for a bottle of water to rid my hangover.
The rail kids were loving the mervin Celica, doing all kinds of crazy rail trickies and what not. But all the attention that day was focused on the quarterpipe and those psycho enough to hit it. Many pros, and up and comers were charging. But it was the old guard who stepped up and gave everyone a show. Peter Line came screaming down the run in, straight lining it (no pun intended) from the gate, going HUGE as always. Kurt Jenson, with style and grace, wowed all, especially the ladies, with his oh so sweet methods. He was later awarded the best Method Award. (Now dubbed the Kurt Jenson Award)
But the man of the hour, the Holiest of the Holy, utilizing everything he learned at cheer camp, was the one and only Monty Hays. Every time he hit the quarterpipe the crowd watched in awe as he went for all or nothing (usually coming away with the all) He went bigger than everyone else, and crashed harder than everyone else, by paying the ultimate price, he won the ultimate award. This year’s 2009 Holy Oly Winner: Monty Hays.
Thanks to all that came out and gave us another wonderful year, proving once again that the uncontest is the best contest. Special thanks to Jesse Burtner, Krush Kulesza, all the folks at Mervin, and Pat Wright.

A skinned Rabbit printing machine
The guts of the NW Spacecraft Rabbit discovered a new way to print images.
Here is the mix: 4 parts party liquid, (making sure that there is a fair mix between beer, hard liquor and wine coolers) 2 parts sweat, a large sharpie marker and ending the night on a linoleum floor.
It was discovered by the Rabbit, that if you spend hours in the Rabbit suit with the above formula, dehydrate yourself, get drawn on and then “fall asleep” on a wet surface, you can transfer images permanently.
You must be 21 years or older to attempt, and we suggest that you don’t. Also remember that the image will print in reverse and you will impress no one, except me.
Thank you Rabbit for making us smile by going the extra mile.

Pennywise loves the Bunny
LG Action sports came to town a little while back, and had some lame action sports events with rollerblading and such. The only cool thing they lined up was a Pennywise concert that Saturday night. Most people have learned that you can’t have an event here in Seattle without the possibility of a giant rabbit magically appearing, and LG is no exception.
Next thing you know I am in the bowels of Key Arena and being rushed backstage, then onstage and… well the pictures say it all.
Go straight ahead. It’s your f**king life!

Bunny Invades Qwest Field
Just because I’m a bunny doesn’t mean I’m not American, who doesn’t love a little football on Sunday. So a couple Sundays back I rallied on down Qwest Field and manage to jedi my way into the stadium, I told them Blitz was my second cousin.
The folks over at Redbull were nice enough to stash me in their fancy box, so in return here is a little product placement ![]()

Just two hard working dudes.
The best part was running into the Campbell’s Chunky Soup lady, I think her son plays football or something, anyway she thought I was cute.
After a long day of birds, seahawks and eagles, the last thing I needed to see was a chicken, but I let him have it, and I think he kind of liked it…

Wave Powerplant Goes Live in Portugal
The world’s first commercial wave farm went live at the end of September in Agucadoura, located off the coast of northern Portugal. Designed by Pelamis Wave Power, the farm employs three Wave Energy Converters - snakelike, semi-submerged devices that generate electricity with hydraulic rams driven by waves. This first phase of the new renewable energy farm is rated at 2.25 MW with 3 machines, and the the second phase will add an additional 25 machines to bring the capacity to 21 MW - enough to power 15,000 homes!
Each Pelamis Wave Energy Converter measure 140 meters long and 3.5 meters in diameter, so they do take up significant amount of space out in the ocean. Still, the potential from this energy source is huge - the world’s waves are estimated to generate 2 Terawatts of power. To put that in perspective, the US currently has a generating capacity of just over 1 TW.
Pelamis Wave Energy Converters are tethered to the ocean floor by cables and are pointed perpendicular to the coastline. Each device is composed of several sections connected with articulated joints. As the waves roll in past the device, each section is driven up and down, while the hydraulic rams inside resist the motion. This resistance pumps high pressure fluid through hydraulic motors, which drive electric generators, thereby producing electricity. This electricity is then transmitted via underwater cables to the mainland.
Naturally, the amount of electricity generated depends upon the power of the waves at any given time, so like wind and solar energy, the electricity generated is not on demand. It’s an exciting renewable resource however, and Portugal’s new wave farm marks an important first step towards proving the technology, creating demand, and driving down the price. Soon you might see these off your local beach, assuming the conditions are right.
